About Me

Rob Doss is a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer who began his military career as an enlisted infantryman before earning his wings as a naval aviator and helicopter pilot. Following his military service, he became an entrepreneur, taught high school history, government, economics, sociology, and entrepreneurship, and later served as a school district administrator.

He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Missouri and an M.S. in Management from Troy University.

Writing has been a constant throughout his career. His work has appeared in the Marine Corps Gazette and the U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings. He is the author of How to Coach Tee Ball Without Going INSANE and has contributed chapters to The Chopper Boys (Greenhill Books), Somalia – Unending Turmoil, Since 1975 (Pen and Sword Books), and Kommando-Unternehmen (E.S. Mittler & Sohn GmbH).

Today, Rob writes Citizen Field Notes on Substack, where he explores history, citizenship, and current events. He is also the author of the historical novel The Long Harvest, set against the backdrop of the 1936 Salinas Lettuce Strike.
